The girls are working on their Bronze Award this year and have chosen to do a Children's Health & Safety Expo for their service project.  They chose one specific area of need and are focusing their attention on it.  We sought donations, sponsors, partners, etc... to help us with this event.  It was held on Saturday, April 15, 2006 from 1:00 - 4:00 at UCA.

Girl Scouts plan 'Hobo Hike' to benefit animals

Girl Scout troops 535 and 550 of Theodore Jones Elementary School will participate in a "Hobo Hike" in Briarwood subdivision from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday. The scouts will collect items for the Conway Animal Welfare Unit and Humane Society of Faulkner County.

Neighbors are asked to leave a donation on their doorstep that day or be home when the scouts come by. Those who do not live in the neighborhood may contact LeVonda Smith, Troop 535 Leader at
gstroop535@theodorejones.com.

Needed items include dry and canned puppy food, dry dog food, dry and canned kitten food, dry cat food, neoprene water dishes and small straight-sided stainless steel bowls (no double insulated bowls).

Other helpful miscellaneous items include blankets, towels, litter pans and dog houses.

On April 12th the girls delivered around 600 pounds of dog food along with dry and canned cat food, towels, kitty litter, bowls, and leashes to the Conway Animal Shelter. They were able to tour the facility and see all of the dogs and cats that need homes here in Conway. If you are looking for a family pet please check out the animal shelter! Girl Scout Troop 535 & 550 would like to ask everyone to please have your pets spayed or neutered!
